Choosing Stock Length for 5.27m Rebar
One hundred 5.27m pieces require 527m of finished length. Before kerf, trimming and tolerances, the alternatives are 100 nine-metre bars, 50 twelve-metre bars or 50 custom 10.54m bars. The best length match does not necessarily have the lowest delivered cost.
For repeated main-bar lengths, the purchased stock length changes the amount left after cutting. Consider an order for 100 pieces at 5270mm. This nominal geometry example excludes kerf, trimming and stock or finished-length tolerances.
Compare the same finished demand
| Stock length | Stock bars | Input length | Finished length | Remaining length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9m | 100 | 900m | 527m | 373m |
| 12m | 50 | 600m | 527m | 73m |
| 10.54m | 50 | 527m | 527m | Nominally zero |
The nine- and twelve-metre options have nominal finished-length utilization of 58.56% and 87.83%. Assess whether their remnants meet other genuine orders before treating them as scrap. The custom option depends on the cutting process and tolerance agreement; sawing requires additional allowance for kerf and end treatment.
Add the procurement conditions
- Availability and the agreed stock-length tolerance.
- Minimum order quantity, lead time and transport handling.
- Custom-length premium and delivered prices.
- Remnant reuse against actual orders and inventory duration.
Chituo’s procurement comparison brings stock-length choices and cutting patterns into the same cut list. A purchasing recommendation also needs actual prices and supply constraints. Run the comparison, then confirm the proposed stock lengths with the supplier.
